Hi, my name is Lucille and this is my initial blog of Discovery. I’m glad you are reading it and hopefully you will get onboard for the journey. As a matter of fact, if you like the topic and if it speaks to you, invite some of your friends to join us on this journey of Discovery.
Somewhere along the way, many of us lose the most important person in our lives – ourselves. If we are fortunate, at some point we will come to recognize this or have someone to point it out to us, like I was. That person for me was my 16 years- younger- sister. The time was during a troubled marriage and she had come for a visit. “What’s happened to you” she asked “you have always been so sure of yourself, and now you can’t seem to make a simple decision. The fact that she is so much younger and I always considered myself her unofficial mentor, really jolted me to the reality of what I was losing and what I was missing more than anything – myself.
What Sis was observing and voiced to me never left me, and from that moment on, and especially after my divorce, I set out on a journey of self-discovery and reclaiming myself. The really great thing about having your eyes, heart, soul and spirit open to discovery is that you find so much more along the way than you set out looking for.
As a matter of fact, my expedition of discovery took me back further than my divorce, my marriage, and even my young adult self. I think that a lot of us begin to lose ourselves during those turbulent teen years when we want so desperately to fit in. When we are always the tallest or huskiest in the class and gangly and awkward, besides, we begin to lose ourselves as we deny our unique beauty and our unique selves and claim what others have as so much more.
My journey is almost at its ten year mark and in some ways, that qualifies me to be a tour guide for others on the same journey. So, to celebrate my landmark, I would love for you to join me. I will share with you some of my discoveries and hopefully, you will share your journey with me. If you have not embarked on your journey of discovery, rediscovery or self-discovery yet, I would love to help you get started in setting up an itinerary for this expedition.
As I close for this week, I would like to share excerpts of a poem that I wrote as I embarked on my journey of discovery. I hope that you enjoy it.
As we travel through this life
On the road to our special place;
There’s so much to see and enjoy,
Life has much that we must face.
We encounter many detours
That can take us off our course;
The death of a friend or loved one,
Then there’s foreclosures and divorce.
But if we keep right on moving,
On the journey, we will see;
That very same road will lead us
To our life’s destiny.
The journey takes us over mountains
That are very hard to ascend;
Then we find we’re in the valley,
And we’re starting over again.
Don’t be discouraged by the climb.
Just enjoy the mountain view.
Pick flowers while in the valley;
God plants them there for you.
There are too many lonely travelers
Headed in the same direction;
‘Stead of looking in the face of another,
We share the journey with our own reflection.
But the journey can be made sweeter,
When we travel with someone;
We’ll find the load made lighter,
Sharing the hard times and the fun.
So, take my hand. Let us travel together.
We need not make this journey alone.
We will share the tears and share the laughter;
Sharing the cost; two traveling as one © 2007
Let’s begin this journey of Discovery
